Yesterday's painting was of the same scene, but I couldn't decide on doing a vertical or horizontal study, so I decided on doing both! I was having trouble tightening up too early, so I basically abandoned what I was doing before and repainted it with a lot more paint on to the paper and looser brushwork. It's fun when you get confident enough with gouache to start overlapping energetic strokes on each other and carve out shapes by using their negative corresponding shape to define them. I think the key is energy.
