Thanks to Heather Ihn Martin for the Rice Krispie Treat! We went to her open studio and picked up a couple of paintings as well as some goodies to paint. This was one of those goodies. By accident I was inspired to paint this object backlit. Vanessa has been low-key obsessed with a Youtube channel about VFX artists, and one of the lessons in a video was about subsurface light scattering. To demonstrate, we held up a rice krispie treat to the sun, and the beautiful light scattering inside the puffed rice was fascinating! And like that, an idea is born.
 
This ornament is around 3" in diameter and painted in traditional gouache. It has been varnished with cold wax.
